What are the Hermetic Laws?

The seven Hermetic principles have their origin in Egyptian mysticism and are attributed to the legendary Hermes Trismegistus. They describe the fundamental mechanisms of the universe and are the key to conscious life design.

These laws were passed down in secret schools for millennia and only made accessible to the public in 1908 in the book "The Kybalion".

1. The Principle of Mentalism

"The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental."

Everything that exists is a manifestation of the universal mind. Your thoughts are creative forces. What you create inside will sooner or later reflect in your outer reality. This principle is the foundation of all other laws.

2. The Principle of Correspondence

"As above, so below; as below, so above. As within, so without."

There is harmony between the different planes of existence – the physical, mental, and spiritual. Your outer life is a mirror of your inner state. If you want change on the outside, start with work on the inside.

3. The Principle of Vibration

"Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates."

Everything in the universe is in constant motion. Even seemingly rigid matter consists of atoms. Mental states also have dynamics. Positive states like calmness promote foresight, negative ones like fear lead to tunnel vision. Understanding this dynamic allows you to consciously choose your state.

4. The Principle of Polarity

"Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites."

Opposites are essentially just two extremes of the same thing. Heat and cold are different degrees of temperature. Love and hate are different degrees of emotion. Through this understanding, you can practice Mental Alchemy: You transform negative states by focusing on the opposite end of the spectrum.

5. The Principle of Rhythm

"Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall."

Life moves in cycles. After high phases come low phases – and vice versa. The moon waxes and wanes, seasons change, and your energy has a natural rhythm too. Those who understand this law do not fight against the tides but learn to sail with them.

6. The Principle of Cause and Effect

"Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause."

There is no chance – only laws we do not yet understand. Everything that happens in your life is the result of preceding causes. This means: You are not the victim of your circumstances, but can consciously set causes that lead to desired effects.

7. The Principle of Gender

"Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles."

This principle refers not only to biological gender but to the universal forces of Yang (masculine, active, giving) and Yin (feminine, passive, receiving). True creation arises from the interplay of both principles. Both forces are present within yourself – balance leads to wholeness.
